Severe weather can happen at anytime, anywhere. Each year, people in the US deal with many different types of intense storms. Here are the averages:

10,000 severe thunderstorms

5,000 floods or flash floods

1,300 tornadoes

2 landfalling deadly hurricanes 

About  98% of all government declared disasters as weather related, leading to around 650 deaths per years and nearly $15 billion in damages according to noaa.gov.
